Description: This is a 100% original military issue piece, not a modern copy. It features a crisp, die-stamped brass construction with the correct hollow-recessed reverse side. The back has the long, solid vertical brass slider fixing designed for a traditional peaked service cap.
Condition: Good vintage condition with a genuine aged dark patina. The metal detailing on the antlers and fur remains sharp. The rear slider is straight, completely solid, and unbroken. Please check the photos carefully to view the condition.
History: The badge displays a mature male deer (Hart) crossing a shallow river crossing (Ford), creating a literal visual pun for the county name Hert-ford. The regiment mobilized in August 1914. They fought as dismounted cavalry at Gallipoli in 1915, and later served in Egypt and Mesopotamia (modern-day Iraq) against the Ottoman Empire.
