Item History & Background
The Motor Machine Gun Service (MMGS) was created by the British Army in November 1914 to deploy rapid, mobile machine gun firepower using motorcycle sidecar combinations. Because this specialized unit was absorbed into the larger Machine Gun Corps in October 1915, it only existed independently for less than a year. Consequently, genuine badges from this short period are rare. The reverse side features the classic long brass slider mounting bar, natively brazed during production to join the distinct white-metal “MMG” letters to the brass crown and crossed Vickers guns.
