Genuine WWII British Army Royal Warwickshire Regiment Bi-Metal Cap Badge
Up for sale is an authentic, original World War II era British Army line infantry cap badge representing the historic Royal Warwickshire Regiment.
This badge features a beautiful, iconic bi-metal layout comprised of a white metal antelope set inside a crown-style collar, standing over a heavy-gauge stamped brass scroll bearing the regiment’s name. This particular specimen is the standard format 42mm x 56mm version, designed to be worn on standard infantry service caps.
As shown in the reverse-side photographs, the braze work joining the two metals remains entirely intact and sound. It features a complete, unbent rear slider mounting prong, making it a stellar addition for military history enthusiasts, medal displays, or dedicated militaria collectors.
History About the Item
The Royal Warwickshire Regiment was a senior line infantry unit of the British Army with a lineage dating back to 1674. In 1782, the county designation of Warwickshire was bestowed upon the regiment, and it was later granted the “Royal” prefix in 1832 by King William IV.
The regiment’s distinct Antelope emblem is steeped in folklore and military history. Legend states it was adopted following the Battle of Almansa in 1707, where the regiment captured a Moorish standard bearing an antelope. Another historical account links it to the badge of King Henry VI, a notable benefactor of Warwickshire.
The two-part, bi-metal construction featuring a white metal beast on a gilding-metal title scroll was officially established for other ranks’ headdress in the late Victorian era and remained in standard deployment through the heavy mobilizations of both World Wars until the unit amalgamated into the Royal Fusiliers in 1968.
