History About the Item
The Gloucestershire Regiment was a legendary line infantry regiment of the British Army with a lineage dating back to 1694. This specific badge commemorates their heroic action in the Battle of Alexandria (1801) in Egypt, where they fought back-to-back against overwhelming numbers, earning them the unique privilege of wearing a badge on both the front and the back of their headdress (known as the “Back Badge”). This Staybrite issue was produced by the historic military outfitters J.R. Gaunt during the mid-to-late 20th century Cold War deployments.
