This is a complete, original vintage British Army cap badge for the 1st Battalion, The Royal Scots (The Royal Regiment). The front features the multi-pointed Star of the Order of the Thistle with a brass oval depicting St. Andrew and his cross. It comes fully complete with its original 1st Battalion red felt cloth insert and the long brass cotter pin used to lock it onto the uniform hat.

The Royal Scots is the oldest infantry regiment in the British Army, formed in 1633. This specific badge layout with the distinct red felt backing was worn exclusively by the 1st Battalion on their Kilmarnock bonnets and Glengarry caps through both World War I and World War II.
