Item History
The Duke of Cornwall’s Light Infantry was an elite infantry formation formed in 1881 via the Childers Reforms. This specific variant featuring the Ducal Coronet was officially introduced in 1901 following the death of Queen Victoria and remained the definitive badge worn by frontline battalions throughout both World War I and World War II. The regiment famously wore a red cloth backing behind this badge to commemorate historical actions during the American War of Independence, making it one of the most distinctive units in the British Army before merging into the Somerset and Cornwall Light Infantry in 1959.
