The Glider Pilot Regiment was an elite unit of the British Army’s airborne forces, tasked with piloting heavy troop-carrying gliders into combat zones during WWII. Following the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II in 1953, insignia patterns were officially redesigned to feature the Queen’s Crown. However, the Glider Pilot Regiment was officially disbanded shortly after in 1957, meaning this specific Queen’s Crown variation was only produced and issued for a very short 4-year period. True Gaunt-stamped, white metal examples from this brief final chapter of the regiment are highly sought after and rarely come up for sale.
