Genuine British Army WWI Militaria – Collectible Cap Badge
Up for sale is an authentic, original World War I era brass cap badge for the Queen’s Own Oxfordshire Hussars. This beautifully detailed cavalry badge depicts the interlocking royal cypher “AR” (for Queen Adelaide), elegantly surmounted by the King’s Crown. A scrolling banner underneath proudly bears the text “QUEENS OWN OXFORDSHIRE HUSSARS”.
The reverse features its original, historically accurate twin loop/lug fixing mechanism spaced at 36mm, which was standard for early 20th-century service caps before slider bars became widespread.

History
The Oxfordshire Hussars on the Western Front
The Queen’s Own Oxfordshire Hussars (QOOH) was a historic yeomanry cavalry regiment of the British Army. Upon the outbreak of World War I, they became part of the 2nd Cavalry Division and deployed rapidly to France in September 1914, making them the very first territorial unit to see active combat on the Western Front. Notably, Winston Churchill served as an officer in this regiment prior to the war. The “AR” cypher featured on the badge honors Queen Adelaide, who granted the regiment its royal title in 1835.
