Up for sale is an authentic, original World War I era cap badge for the Bedfordshire Regiment. This piece is the highly collectible 1916 “all-brass” economy issue pattern, which was introduced during the height of the war to conserve materials. It features a Maltese cross superimposed on an eight-pointed star, with a central Garter encircling a hart (deer) crossing a ford. The bottom features the single scrolling banner reading “BEDFORDSHIRE”.

The reverse side is complete with its original, full-length brass slider fitting. This is a brilliant piece of genuine frontline Great War history, perfect for advanced badge collectors and military historians alike.

The 1916 Economy Issues on the Western Front
The Bedfordshire Regiment raised more than 20 battalions during the Great War, seeing heavy combat across the Western Front (including the Somme and Ypres), Gallipoli, and Italy. In 1916, the War Office ordered manufacturers to simplify badge production by making them entirely out of brass/gilding metal rather than using two separate metals. This specific all-brass pattern was only made for a short window, as the regiment was permanently renamed the Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire Regiment in 1919, making this single-scroll version a true wartime relic.
