Item History
- Regiment Origins: Formed during the Childers Reforms in 1881 by combining the historic 26th Cameronian Regiment of Foot and the 90th Perthshire Light Infantry.
- Regimental Identity: The Cameronians were celebrated as the only official “Rifles” regiment in the entire Scottish infantry division.
- Symbol Meaning: The five-pointed star honors the coat of arms of the ancient and powerful Douglas family who originally helped raise the regiment in 1689.
- Piper’s Tradition: Scottish pipers marched at the front of the battalions through the Boer War and World War I. They wore these heavy, oversized badges on their traditional headwear to stand out on the battlefield.
