Item History
Formed in 1881, the Dorsetshire Regiment carried rich historic honors, including being the first British unit to deploy to India (“Primus in Indis”) and capturing the fortress at Marabout, Egypt. The regiment served with massive distinction on the battlefields of World War I, including Gallipoli and the Western Front. This specific bi-metal construction pattern with the slider backing is a classic example fielded by troops during the 1914–1918 conflict.
