Item Overview:
For sale is an original, early-pattern cap badge for The Royal Dragoon Guards (RDG). This specific version is the non-enamel, all-metal type, which was often issued to Other Ranks or used as a training/recruit badge following the regiment’s formation in 1992.
Design & Symbolism:
The badge features the classic eight-pointed Star of the Order of St. Patrick (inherited from the 4th/7th Royal Dragoon Guards). Mounted in the center is the Inniskilling Castle (from the 5th Royal Inniskilling Dragoon Guards), representing the two historic units that amalgamated to form the RDG. The circlet contains the regimental title and the Roman numerals MCMXCII, marking the 1992 amalgamation date.
