Description
This listing is for the complete internal program details of the rare, authentic December 9th, 1899 Withington & District Orchestral Society concert. The two beautifully typeset internal pages detail a classical performance lineup from the late Victorian era.
The musical program includes:
- Part I: Features Gluck’s Iphigenia overture, Mendelssohn’s Infelice performed by Miss J. Liebert, Viotti’s Violin Concerto No. 22 in A minor performed by Miss N. Warburg, and Mozart’s Il Seraglio overture.
- Part II: Features Haydn’s Symphony in E flat, Wieniawski’s Reverie on violin by Miss N. Warburg, traditional and modern songs by Arthur Foote and Gounod sung by Miss J. Liebert, and concludes with Schubert’s Overture in E minor.
The layout is accented with gorgeous, ornate Victorian graphic headers, flourishes, and a small cherub illustration crowning Part II. It offers highly specific data for music historians, local Manchester researchers, and collectors of late 19th-century performance ephemera.

Item History
This program was printed for the opening concert of the Withington Orchestral Society’s 1899–1900 season in South Manchester. It highlights the high-caliber classical repertoire performed by local suburban musical societies at the turn of the century. It has been preserved in a smoke-free, dry, climate-controlled archive to protect the delicate Victorian paper stock.
