Product Overview: A genuine WWI-era 8th (Cyclist) Battalion, Essex Regiment cap badge. This is the scarce blank scroll variant, unique to the 8th Cyclists. Unlike the standard infantry battalions, the Cyclist units did not bear the “Egypt” distinction on the plinth below the Sphinx.
Key Specifications: Regiment: 8th (Cyclist) Battalion, The Essex Regiment.
Era: First World War (c. 1911–1920).
Design: Bi-metal construction (Gilding metal castle/wreath with white metal Sphinx and “IV”).
Distinction: Blank Tablet / Scroll (no “Egypt” inscription).
Fitting: Original rear slider.
History Note: The 8th (Cyclist) Battalion was formed in 1911 and served a vital mobile role during the Great War before being disbanded in 1920. Genuine “blank scroll” examples are rare “gap fillers” for Essex Regiment collectors.
