Product History & Significance: This is a guaranteed original, die-stamped bi-metal cap badge for the Northumberland Fusiliers, a historic line infantry regiment of the British Army. Known famously as the “Fighting Fifth,” the regiment raised an astonishing 52 battalions during the First World War, serving heavily across the Western Front, Gallipoli, and Salonika.
This specific insignia features a flaming fusilier grenade body struck in brass/gilding metal, paired with a distinct white-metal garter band bearing the regiment’s title.
This design pre-dates the 1935 royal warrant (which added “Royal” to the name and altered the badge scroll format), making it a perfect representative piece worn by soldiers in the trenches of the Great War.
