Description
This is an authentic vintage black and white League of Ireland soccer press photograph captured by regional photojournalist Ken Finegan from Drogheda. The action shot captures a dramatic mid-air clash in the penalty box involving iconic Irish goalkeeper Alan O’Neill and an opponent defending against the famous green and white hoops of Shamrock Rovers. The back of the photo provides excellent historical provenance, featuring the newspaper archive markup handwritten identifier “Alan O’Neill”, layout codes, and Finegan’s official National Union of Journalists media stamp. An incredible addition to any collection tracking League of Ireland heritage, Shamrock Rovers history, or vintage sports photography.

- Front: Excellent clarity and contrast, crisp action focus, and minimal surface handling wear from historical newsroom archiving.
- Reverse: Naturally aged paper tone. The handwritten editorial text and photographer ink stamp are perfectly legible, bold, and clean. Free from tears, deep folds, or pinholes.
Item History
This photograph was taken during a match in the late 1970s or 1980s by Ken Finegan, who has famously documented local news and sporting events across Leinster for decades. The back features authentic newsroom markings used by sports desk editors to track player names and layout dimensions (“3M” sizing note) before publishing the photo in the daily newspaper press.
