Description
This is an authentic, scarce original World War II era British military arm trade badge representing the 12th Prince of Wales’s Royal Lancers. Introduced following the regiment’s historic mechanization, this distinctive badge was worn directly on the uniform sleeve by armored car crewmen during active service. Stamped in solid brass, it sharply details the classic side profile of an early armored vehicle, complete with its wheels, body lines, and central top gun turret. The reverse side features its original two vertical wire attachment loops spaced perfectly at 33mm, complete with its original long brass split cotter pin used to secure it safely to thick wool uniform cloth. This is a brilliant, highly collectible piece of British cavalry and mechanized military history.

Item History
The 12th Royal Lancers made history when they officially traded their horses for armored vehicles in 1928, adopting a specialized reconnaissance role. Equipped with armored cars, they played a legendary role in World War II—notably shielding the British Expeditionary Force’s retreat to Dunkirk in 1940, fighting at El Alamein, and acting as a corps-level reconnaissance asset in Italy. To distinguish these specialized crewmen, this stylized vehicle sleeve badge was introduced to be worn on the upper right arm of dress and field uniforms above rank chevrons. Heavy-duty lugs and split cotter pins were standard for arm badges to ensure they stayed flat against heavy wool uniforms during field operations.
