Description
This is an authentic, original vintage Scottish military cap badge for The Glasgow Highlanders, affiliated with the Highland Light Infantry (HLI). The large die-stamped badge features the Star of the Order of the Thistle with Saint Andrew holding his cross at the center, surrounded by detailed regiment banner scrolls. The lower section features the three-part “Light Highland Infantry” scroll style. This example has a bright finish from historical uniform polishing. Measuring 70mm x 57mm, it includes two original copper securing lugs on the reverse side. A wonderful piece for any Scottish regiment, WWII, or British Army militaria collection.

Item History
The Glasgow Highlanders originally served as the 9th Battalion HLI. However, upon the outbreak of war in 1939, a second battalion was raised. King George VI granted them permission to be styled the 1st and 2nd Battalions, The Glasgow Highlanders, and the design on the lower scroll was updated to read “Light Highland Infantry”. Soldiers in this regiment routinely polished their metal badges as part of daily uniform maintenance. The regiment fought with great distinction during World War 2, including actions during the Normandy landings and northwestern Europe.
