Up for sale is a 100% authentic, original World War I era British Army cap badge for the 2nd King Edward’s Horse. This exceptional piece of cavalry history is die-stamped in brass and features incredibly crisp text. The detailed design proudly bears the names of the overseas dominions—Canada, Australia, New Zealand, S. Africa, India, and the Crown Colonies—flanking the central Royal Arms shield.
Up for sale is a 100% authentic, original World War I era British Army cap badge for the 2nd King Edward’s Horse. This exceptional piece of cavalry history is die-stamped in brass and features incredibly crisp text. The detailed design proudly bears the names of the overseas dominions—Canada, Australia, New Zealand, S. Africa, India, and the Crown Colonies—flanking the central Royal Arms shield.
The front face boasts a wonderful, deep natural aged patina with zero polishing wear. The reverse shows a historically honest, darkened tarnish and houses its original long brass mounting slider, completely intact and unbent.
Historical Background:
The 2nd King Edward’s Horse was officially raised on August 24, 1914, by Sir John Norton-Griffiths to absorb overseas colonial volunteers arriving in the UK at the outbreak of the war. The regiment deployed to France, serving as cavalry troops under the XIV Corps. Due to changes in mechanized trench warfare, the unit was disbanded in August 1917, with many of its men absorbed directly into the Tank Corps. Because they only existed for three years, these original badges are highly sought after by specialized militaria collectors.
