You are purchasing very collectable & Original Programme. Up for sale is a completely original, historically fascinating vintage theatre programme from Harrogate, North Yorkshire, dated precisely to Thursday, January 26th, 1928.
This interwar-era document details a special charitable performance of the farcical comedy “The Would-be Gentleman” (translated and adapted from Molière’s Le Bourgeois Gentilhomme by F. Anstey). The production was staged by a company called “The Elizabethans” specifically in aid of the rebuild fund for the Shakespeare Memorial Theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon (which had famously burned down a few years prior in 1926).
This is a wonderful find for local history researchers, genealogists tracing the cast members, and collectors of early 20th-century Yorkshire ephemera.
