1952 Theatre Programme The Bridge – Norman Rossington Pauline Jameson

Up for sale is an original vintage theatre programme for The Bristol Old Vic Company’s 1952 world premiere production of “The Bridge” by Lionel Shapiro. Staged at the historic Theatre Royal in Bristol, this production features an incredibly notable mid-century British cast, including John Neville, Douglas Campbell, Kenneth Cope, and Norman Rossington. The production was directed by Denis Carey with scenic settings designed by Hutchinson Scott.

A prized addition for collectors of mid-century theatrical ephemera, the program’s striking red-and-white architectural border art was custom-designed by the renowned British artist and illustrator Edward Bawden.

The booklet serves as a wonderful historical time capsule, containing a dedicated feature introducing actor Douglas Campbell, details for the upcoming production of Ben Jonson’s The Alchemist, and classic illustrated advertisements from the era for Simonds Tavern Pale Ale, Radio Times, Desmond Tripp Photography, Carwardines Tea & Coffee Rooms, and Abdulla Cigarettes.
