Item description
Up for sale is an original vintage theatre programme for The Bristol Old Vic Company’s 1955 production of “Image in the Sun” by Howard Clewes. Staged at the historic Theatre Royal in Bristol, this rare mid-century play is set in a hotel garden in Tipasa, Algeria, and features deep thematic links to the works of Albert Camus. The production was directed by John Moody with atmospheric stage settings designed by Patrick Robertson.
A prized find for collectors of fine British design, the program features the distinctive architectural border art on the front cover by renowned artist and illustrator Edward Bawden.
This program stands as an exceptional historical time capsule of mid-1950s cultural life in Bristol.
