This is an authentic vintage press photo capturing a highly dramatic and historic moment from the 1966 World Cup Semi-Final. The image features Italian referee Concetto Lo Bello pointing away after sending off Soviet Union star Igor Chislenko extreme left following an incident where he kicked West Germany player Siegfried Held. The back of the photo contains the original full English typed media caption block detailing the incident alongside vintage news agency stamps. This original photograph was captured and distributed directly from the press pool on July 26, 1966. Handled by the major UK media group Associated Newspapers Ltd and PIX service, it was rushed to print rooms to report on West Germany advancing to the famous 1966 Final against England. Chislenko’s sending-off remains one of the most talked-about controversial disciplinary moments of that historic tournament.
