For sale is an exceptionally rare piece of modern musical theatre history: an original pre-Broadway tryout Playbill from the world premiere engagement of “Grind” at the Lyric Opera House in Baltimore, Maryland, from March 1985.
Directed by the multi-Tony Award-winning Harold Prince, this ambitious musical is set inside a segregated 1933 Chicago burlesque theater. While the show would eventually transfer to Broadway’s Mark Hellinger Theatre in April 1985 for a short-lived run of just 71 performances, this specific program documents the raw, unedited out-of-town tryout period. The inner cast page features full biography details, credits, and early production information.
