Thomas Helmer joined Bayern Munich in 1992 for a then-record German transfer fee, quickly becoming a cornerstone of their defense and later the team captain. Press prints like this were produced in limited quantities by European sports photojournalists and media agencies to distribute directly to newspaper sports desks for weekly football coverage.
