Historical Context
This buckle represents an interesting cross-border manufacturing partnership from the late 1970s. Sicks’ Lethbridge Brewery originally launched Pilsner beer in 1926 in Alberta, Canada. By the 1970s, the brand’s iconic label artwork featuring the train, car, and plane was highly celebrated.
To create high-quality souvenir merchandise, Canadian distributor Gandalf Inc. commissioned Bergamot Brass Works in Illinois, USA. Bergamot was famous for its high-relief, detailed artistic casting techniques. This buckle is highly collectible today because it brings together classic Canadian brewing history with renowned American craftsmanship
