Description
This is an excellent, genuine antique military cap badge for the 9th (County of London) Battalion, Queen Victoria’s Rifles. Struck in high-quality solid brass, the design features a striking Maltese cross with a highly detailed central medallion depicting St. George slaying the Dragon, encircled by the text “Queen Victoria’s”. The upper arm displays the hard-won Second Boer War battle honour tablet reading “South Africa 1900-02”, all cleanly surmounted by the King’s Crown. The reverse side holds its authentic, long vertical brass slider mount. A phenomenal piece of British home front and combat history for collectors of London regiment insignia.

Item History
The Queen Victoria’s Rifles (QVR) was an elite volunteer rifle regiment of the British Army’s Territorial Force, based out of London. This specific configuration of the badge, featuring the King’s Crown paired with the South Africa 1900-02 honour tablet, was introduced after the Boer War and proudly worn by the regiment through World War I. Unlike standard units, the QVR had a long-standing prestige in the capital, later seeing fierce actions at Hill 60 and Ypres during the Great War.
