Brief History
  • Formed: Originally raised in North America in 1755 as the 60th (Royal American) Regiment, they evolved into a highly specialized elite light infantry and rifle unit.
  • The Motto: The regiment was awarded their famous motto “Celer et Audax” (Swift and Bold) by General Wolfe during the Seven Years’ War to honor their stealth, speed, and tactical skill.
  • Rifle Regiment Tradition: Unlike standard line infantry who wore bright brass insignia, rifle regiments used blackened metal badges. This was functional camouflage meant to prevent sunlight from reflecting off their uniforms during skirmishes and scouting missions.
  • Service: This specific Maltese Cross pattern with lower battle honors commemorates their legendary early service history, including deployments across South Africa.
