Brief History
- Formed: The regiment was originally raised in 1794 as local volunteer cavalry to protect the UK from a potential French invasion.
- The Boer War (1899–1902): The regiment sent volunteer soldiers to fight in South Africa during the Second Boer War. They fought with great distinction as part of the Imperial Yeomanry.
- Royal Honor: To reward their bravery in South Africa, they were officially awarded the battle honors shown on this badge (“South Africa 1900, 1901, 1902”) and were granted the prestigious title “Prince Albert’s Own”.
- The Badge Design: This specific pattern was introduced right after the Boer War (circa 1902–1908) to proudly display their newly earned battle honors.
