Up for auction or sale is a guaranteed authentic original British Army cap badge representing the legendary Scottish Horse Yeomanry regiment. This piece features the iconic post-1902 pattern produced with the specialized Scottish Crown sitting proudly at the top.
Struck in high-quality white metal, the badge displays crisp die-stamping details throughout the St. Andrew’s Cross, the detailed wreath leaves, and the clear historical lettering. The lower tier features prominent multi-part banner scrolls honoring their combat deployments across the South African veldt. The reverse side holds its original dual loop lugs at a 25mm span. This is an essential centerpiece for advanced collectors of Boer War insignia, Scottish regimental militaria, or Imperial Yeomanry history.

  • Overall Condition: Very Good Vintage Condition.
  • Cosmetic Finish: Retains a lovely, genuine aged silver-toned matte patina on the front surface. It has not been harshly polished or chemically cleaned, preserving its natural historical look.
  • Reverse Side: Shows honest aged darkening and natural tarnish highlights in the deep recesses of the hollow die-stamped shell. Clean, unaltered, and completely honest.
  • Fittings: Both original heavy wire loop fixing lugs are fully intact, strong, and securely brazed to the reverse side at a 25 mm distance. They feature a healthy natural copper/bronze coloration typical of original fittings. No repairs, crack cracks, or modifications.
Item History
The Scottish Horse was a celebrated Yeomanry regiment raised in late 1900 by the Marquess of Tullibardine at the direct request of Lord Kitchener to fight in the Second Boer War. Comprised of Scottish, South African, and Australian mounted troopers, they gained a fierce reputation in the Western Transvaal. The battle honors “South Africa 1900 1901 1902” on the lower scrolls celebrate their heavy operational actions during the conflict, though this definitive design pattern was officially sealed in 1902 and worn forward through World War I.
