Item History – The Durham Light Infantry adopted smaller 30mm badges starting in the 1950s specifically to fit comfortably on the newly introduced wool berets. Following the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II, the crown at the top of the design officially changed from the older King’s Crown to the Queen’s Crown. This specific white metal Queen’s Crown pattern was only worn for a short window from 1952 until the regiment adopted anodised “staybrite” aluminium badges in 1955, and later joined the Light Infantry Brigade in 1958.
