Historical Context & Dating
These stylized, scissor-action ember tongs date back to the Edwardian era to the early 20th Century (circa 1900–1915).
During this period, fireplace tool manufacturers began moving away from the highly ornate, heavy mythological figures popular in the mid-Victorian era. Instead, design trends favored more streamlined, stylized organic forms—such as these elegant ribbed “wing” shapes. This item was explicitly engineered as a high-utility piece for managing the coal fires common in early 20th-century homes, combining practical claw grips with beautiful Edwardian lines.
