Item History
The East Lancashire Regiment was a highly decorated line infantry unit of the British Army. During the Great War, the regiment expanded to 17 battalions, serving with immense bravery on the Western Front (including the Somme and Ypres), Gallipoli, and Mesopotamia. The Sphinx and “EGYPT” honor on the badge was awarded to commemorate the heroic actions of their predecessor unit (the 30th Regiment of Foot) during the Egyptian Campaign of 1801. Genuine WW1 bi-metal specimens with original sliders are widely collected today.
