Item History
- Formation: The Household Battalion was formed in September 1916 from the reserves of the elite Household Cavalry regiments—the 1st Life Guards, 2nd Life Guards, and Royal Horse Guards.
- Frontline Service: They were deployed as infantry directly to the Western Front. They fought in legendary engagements including the Battle of Arras, Third Ypres (Passchendaele), and Bourlon Ridge during the Battle of Cambrai.
- Rarity Factor: Due to a critical lack of cavalry reinforcements, the entire battalion was permanently disbanded in February 1918. This means this insignia was manufactured and worn for a maximum window of only 17 months, making authentic survivors exceptionally scarce.
