Product History & Significance: This is a guaranteed original, die-stamped brass/gilding metal cap badge for the Lanarkshire Yeomanry, an elite and historic Scottish cavalry regiment of the British Army first raised in 1819.
The insignia features a striking double-headed eagle—borrowed directly from the historical Coat of Arms of the Royal Burgh of Lanark—surmounted by the King’s Crown, complete with the lower regimental title scroll.
The eagle’s right claw grips a bell while its left claw holds a bundle of thistles. This pattern with the added title scroll was introduced during the First World War era in October 1916.
The regiment fought bravely as dismounted infantry during the Gallipoli, Egypt, and Palestine campaigns of WWI, and later converted to provide two highly decorated field artillery regiments that fought across Europe during WWII. It makes a wonderful piece of Scottish military heritage for any insignia collection.
