Description: up for sale is a 100% genuine British army rifle brigade (the prince consort’s own) regiment cap badge. This crisp, detailed white metal insignia features a central maltese cross overlaid with a strung bugle and a crown, all encircled by an extensive laurel wreath denoting the unit’s historic battle honors.
Hardware / reverse: features its original, brass vertical fixing slider securely attached to the reverse. The slider is SOLID, unbent, and has a smooth rounded tip, making it fully ready for display or mounting.
Condition: excellent vintage/antique condition. The front features sharp stamping, while the reverse shows honest, untouched age-related verdigris (green patina/oxidization) around the crown area and natural darkening on the brass slider, verifying its historical authenticity.
Historical background: the regiment: formed originally in 1800 as the “Experimental corps of riflemen”, they famously wore dark green jackets instead of the standard British army red coats to practice camouflage tactics.
They were renamed the rifle brigade (the prince consort’s own) in honor of prince albert.The design: the inclusion of the king’s crown (Tudor crown style) establishes this badge’s manufacture and service timeline between 1910 and 1952, spanning both World War I and World War II.
Battle honors: the dense text stamped along the outer wreath details the regiment’s prestigious service history, leading from waterloo all the way up through the boer war and early 20th-century campaigns.
