This is an authentic vintage British Army cap badge for the Royal 1st Devonshire Yeomanry. The badge features the regiment’s distinct Royal Crest motif—a highly detailed crowned lion standing atop a King’s Crown. It was manufactured by the legendary military outfitters J.R. Gaunt & Son at their Birmingham factory works. The reverse side features the classic, crisp stamped manufacturer mark “J.R. GAUNT B’HAM” directly on the long mounting slider clip. An excellent piece of historical cavalry headdress insignia, perfect for serious militaria collectors.

The Royal 1st Devon Yeomanry was a prestigious yeomanry cavalry regiment of the British Army. They famously adopted the standalone Royal Crest as their headdress insignia. This specific design was worn prior to their 1920 amalgamation with the Royal North Devonshire Hussars. The maker, J.R. Gaunt of Birmingham, was world-renowned for supplying high-quality badges to the British forces throughout both World Wars, making their stamped items highly collectible today.
