Product History & Significance: This is a guaranteed original, die-stamped brass/gilding metal cap badge for the Corps of Royal Engineers, commonly known across the British Armed Forces as the Sappers.
This specific badge features the King George V (GVR) royal cypher at its center, surrounded by the Order of the Garter motto band (“HONI SOIT QUI MAL Y PENSE”) and a victory laurel wreath. The Royal Engineers played an absolutely critical role during the First World War, tasked with massive logistical undertakings on the Western Front, including trench construction, field fortifications, tunneling, building bridges, and managing frontline communications. This badge pattern was worn extensively by other ranks on their service dress caps throughout the duration of the Great War.
