Up for sale is an authentic vintage solid brass door knocker featuring a highly detailed relief design of the famous “Old Blacksmith’s Shop” in Gretna Green, Scotland. The detailed casting beautifully showcases the historic smithy cottage roofline, windows, front hedge, and the distinct anvil shape worked right into the metalwork.
Up for sale is an authentic vintage solid brass door knocker featuring a highly detailed relief design of the famous “Old Blacksmith’s Shop” in Gretna Green, Scotland. The detailed casting beautifully showcases the historic smithy cottage roofline, windows, front hedge, and the distinct anvil shape worked right into the metalwork.
Gretna Green famously became a haven for runaway young couples after the Marriage Act of 1754 tightened marriage laws in England. Couples eloped across the Scottish border to be wed by local “anvil priests” or blacksmiths. This decorative vintage piece perfectly captures a unique slice of British romantic folklore.
It features integrated top and bottom pre-drilled screw holes, making it ready to mount on a front door, garden gate, or to display inside as a piece of rustic wall decor.
