Description
This is an authentic, obsolete British police insignia for a Senior Officer of the London Metropolitan Police. This high-ranking regulation badge was exclusively issued to officers holding the rank of Superintendent, Commissioner, or Chief Constable.
The piece is crafted from solid silver, featuring the unmistakable “SILVER” hallmark stamp crisply struck into the reverse of the bottom star point. The front displays a beautiful starburst design overlaid with a blue vitreous enamel ring, framing the central raised EIIR royal monogram under the Queen’s Crown. The reverse features a classic hollow-struck back with its two original copper-toned loop lugs intact.

Item History
Up until around the late 20th century, the Metropolitan Police issued high-purity sterling silver badges to its top tier of command. Due to high production costs, these solid silver pieces were eventually phased out and replaced by cheaper silver-plated or chrome alternatives, making original stamped versions scarce.
