Up for sale is a genuine, original official matchday programme from the important international fixture between England and Yugoslavia, played at Wembley Stadium in May 1966.
This is a key collectable piece from England’s historic 1966 World Cup year. Staged as a crucial warm-up game just weeks before the tournament kicked off, it offers a fascinating look at Sir Alf Ramsey’s squad selection process.
The inner pages feature a brilliant commentary by Brian Glanville titled “Bold and Sensible,” assessing England’s World Cup chances and potential tournament wildcards like a 19-year-old Peter Osgood. The England team pages highlight legendary World Cup-winning heroes including Bobby Moore, Gordon Banks, Bobby Charlton, Alan Ball, Geoff Hurst, and Jimmy Greaves.
The visiting Yugoslavian side features detailed player profiles and history tracking their own squad building, highlighting stars like Velibor Vasović, Branko Rašović, and Dragan Džajić.
The programme includes a complete fixture table schedule for the upcoming 1966 World Cup, an advertisement page to order your 1966 FA Cup Final Programme (Everton vs. Sheffield Wednesday), historical head-to-head records between the nations, and classic retro advertisements for Senior Service cigarettes, Double Diamond beer, and the legendary “If you can’t beat a bull, join him!” Bovril back cover illustration.
Condition:
- Overall Condition: Very Good clean vintage condition given its age.
- Pages: The inner pages are complete, clean, and crisp with no missing elements.
- Markings: Clean, unscored team lineup pages.
