Item Details: Up for sale is a genuine beautifully preserved British military slouch hat badge from the Boer War period

This striking insignia highlights a highly detailed central Scottish Thistle blossom resting within stylized foliate leaves

The reverse features the correct heavy-gauge horizontal pin which remains straight and fully operational

This specific pin style was used to firmly pierce thick wool slouch hats and kilt fabric

Condition: Excellent vintage antique condition.

Regiment and Timeline: This badge was specifically issued to the Royal Scottish Reserve Regiment.

This was a short-lived emergency unit created by Queen Victoria in 1900 and disbanded shortly after in 1901

The unit was formed explicitly to help reinforce the home front and free up active forces during the height of the Second Boer War from 1899 to 1902 in South Africa

During this campaign British and Commonwealth troops largely discarded rigid traditional helmets in favor of practical khaki slouch hats. The left side of the slouch hat brim was pinned up to the crown

Large prominent white-metal badges like this thistle emblem were worn directly on that pinned fold. Because the regiment existed for only about a year these badges were produced in very small numbers.

Surviving examples with original undamaged pin assemblies intact on the reverse are increasingly scarce and highly sought after by global militaria collectors,.
