Description
This is an authentic, 100% genuine antique British Army cavalry cap badge for the 18th Hussars (Princess of Wales’s Own). The intricately die-struck design features a central oval inscribed with the regiment’s motto “Pro Rege Pro Lege Pro Patria Conamur”.
The center displays the Roman numerals XVIII over the letter H, surmounted by the King’s Crown. The oval is flanked by a laurel wreath highlighting the historic battle honors Peninsula and Waterloo, sitting above a title scroll reading Princess of Wales’s. The reverse retains its original mounting loop lugs and comes complete with its original brass hairpin-style fixing cotter pin. This is an excellent piece of British cavalry heritage, ideal for badge collectors and military history enthusiasts.

Item History
This rare, specific pattern with the King’s Crown and the “Princess of Wales’s” title scroll was only worn by the 18th Hussars for a brief period between 1903 and 1910. In 1910, the regiment was retitled in honor of Queen Mary, making this short-lived Edwardian design highly sought-after by collectors. The regiment boasted a legendary light cavalry status, famously participating in major campaigns across the 19th and early 20th centuries.
