Item History
The Volunteer Training Corps (VTC) was a volunteer home defense organization formed during WW1 (1914–1919) for men who were either above military age or in deferred occupations. Acting as the direct spiritual predecessor to World War II’s Home Guard, local units like the Barrow & North Lonsdale VTC in Lancashire were raised to defend factories, shipyards, and coastal infrastructure against potential German raids. Surviving local VTC badges with their original long-slider attachments are highly prized by collectors archiving genuine early 20th-century home front defense history.
