Description
This is an authentic, original military cap badge from the World War 1 era for The Duke of Wellington’s Regiment (West Riding). The badge features a striking bi-metal construction. The top features a white metal demi-lion rampant holding a banner flag, rising out of a ducal coronet. Below the coronet is a small motto scroll reading “Virtutis Fortuna Comes”. The base is made of a brass scroll reading “The West Riding”. The reverse side features the classic long brass vertical slider attachment completely intact, typical of WWI manufacture. A great addition to any WWI British Army infantry or Yorkshire militaria collection.

Item History
The Duke of Wellington’s Regiment (West Riding) was a famous infantry regiment of the British Army. It was the only regiment named after a specific person who was not a member of the Royal Family. The distinctive demi-lion holding a flag design is adapted directly from the family crest of Arthur Wellesley, the 1st Duke of Wellington. The regiment served with exceptional bravery during World War 1, fighting in major actions along the Western Front including the Battle of the Somme and Passchendaele.
