For sale is a 100% genuine, original British Army bi-metal cap badge for the King’s Own Yorkshire Light Infantry (K.O.Y.L.I.). This iconic insignia features a die-stamped brass coiled French horn with a white metal “White Rose of York” cleanly secured in the center loop.
For sale is a 100% genuine, original British Army bi-metal cap badge for the King’s Own Yorkshire Light Infantry (K.O.Y.L.I.). This iconic insignia features a die-stamped brass coiled French horn with a white metal “White Rose of York” cleanly secured in the center loop.
This specific piece is complete with its original, straight, unaltered long brass slider on the reverse. It holds the famous distinction among militaria collectors as being the smallest cap badge pattern ever officially issued to the British Army, measuring approximately 18 mm tall and 36 mm wide and between lug to lug 00 mm.

History:
The design of this badge captures centuries of proud British military heritage. The regiment’s roots date back to 1755, but it officially adopted the Light Infantry designation in 1809, which introduced the bugle horn emblem universally worn by nimble skirmishing units.
Following the 1881 Cardwell Reforms, the regiment became known as the King’s Own Light Infantry (South Yorkshire Regiment). This compact bi-metal pattern featuring the Yorkshire Rose inside the horn twist was formally introduced in the late Victorian era (around 1898) and proudly carried by soldiers through the trenches of World War I and the battlefields of World War II, until the regiment was eventually amalgamated into The Light Infantry in 1968.
