Item Description
Original WWII British Army GHQ Middle East Land Forces (MELF) Formation Sign
This is an authentic printed cotton (Ordnance Issue) formation sign for General Headquarters units in the Middle East. It features the iconic gold camel on a shield divided horizontally, red over royal blue.
Construction: Screen-printed on wartime utility cotton/calico fabric.
Design: Distinctive “Camel” insignia used by GHQ staff and supporting units.
Condition: Excellent uniform-removed character. The colors remain strong, and the fabric shows honest service wear.
Reverse: The back shows clear evidence of its history, including original stitching remnants and signs of being previously mounted in a period collector’s album. This “salty” look is a key indicator of its originality and authenticity.
History: This design was used by HQ units throughout the Middle East Command during and immediately following WWII, including service in Egypt and Cyprus.
