Description
Up for sale is a vintage British Royal Artillery Volunteers White Metal Cap Badge. This iconic insignia features the beautifully detailed 12-spoke cannon wheel gun below the King’s Crown layout. It is uniquely struck with the “VOLUNTEERS” upper banner scroll, denoting its issue to historic Volunteer Training Corps or early Territorial units.
The Latin motto banner running along the lower edge remains completely legible. This is a brilliant piece for militaria historians, badge variant collectors, or family heritage displays.

- Overall Condition: Fair to Good Vintage / Used
- Front Details: The face of the badge displays crisp stamping lines and an elegant, unpolished bright white metal finish with minor natural surface storage tarnish.
- Reverse Fitting Note: As noted, there are no lugs present on the reverse side. The original fixing lugs have been cleanly removed or broken off flush with the back from historic uniform removal or conversion into a sweetheart brooch or display board layout. Please review the visual profile carefully to assess this rear alteration.
Item History
While the standard regular British Army issued Royal Artillery badges in brass or bronze, white metal variations were specifically struck for the Volunteers and Territorial Force units during the late Victorian, Edwardian, and Great War eras. The field gun design with a moving wheel variant was adopted globally, but the dedicated “Volunteers” script marks this out as a specialized home-front or auxiliary unit variant highly prized by specialized military badge catalogers.
