Historical Background – Sky was a highly successful British-Australian instrumental group formed in 1979 that masterfully fused classical music, jazz, and progressive rock. The supergroup originally brought together legendary classical guitar virtuoso John Williams, master session bassist Herbie Flowers, and keyboardist Francis Monkman.
In 1985, following the departure of John Williams, the band released their highly adventurous, jazz-influenced sixth studio album titled The Great Balloon Race. To support the launch and its subsequent live tour, these official rectangular enamel badges were custom-produced for promotional distribution and venue merchandise tables. A pristine example of this exact variant is officially held in the permanent collection of the prestigious Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A) in London. This brief production run makes it a highly desirable crossover item for rock insignia historians and vinyl enthusiasts alike.
