Up for sale is a beautiful, highly collectible matching pair of antique solid brass student desk lamps dating from the early 20th century (circa 1910s–1920s). These timeless industrial-era task lights feature elegant fluted/reeded central columns rising from heavy, stable round bases accented with an intricate beaded border and miniature feet.
The standout feature of this pair is the mechanical, articulated swivel-tilt head assembly. Each lamp features an adjustable brass bracket system locked into position by a top wing-nut finial mechanism. This allows the heavy brass light sockets to be seamlessly tilted and angled to direct light precisely where needed. Both lamps retain their authentic, old-style brass pull-chain switches and threaded shade-fitter rings.
Historical Context:
Dating back to the late Edwardian or early Art Deco era, this specific mechanical style of adjustable desk lighting was highly popular in professional libraries, legal offices, and draftsmanship studios. Often referred to as “Pullman style” lighting, they represent early electrical engineering designed around utility, heavy brass composition, and robust adjustments.
